Understanding the motivations, triggers, barriers and impacts of participation is critical to designing appropriate policies and mechanisms to encourage and sustain citizen involvement. The Pathways through Participation project team’s latest report ‘Strengthening participation: learning from participants’ sets out some of the emerging issues from the project to date, to contribute to current national and local policy debates, and raises a number of questions that will be further explored in the next stages of the project.
